Training Trainers

All Dogs Gym offers programs for both dog trainers and instructors. What's the difference? Trainers train dogs and instructors teach people how to train their dogs. While the focus of each is different, both trainers and instructors need many of the same skills.

Here's a rundown of the knowledge, skills and characteristics of both the dog trainer and instructor:

  • Knowledge of the principles of learning (for both dogs and people)
  • Communication skills and ability to teach
  • Empathy and understanding
  • Observation skills
  • Enthusiasm
  • Patience
  • Knowledge of the many influences on learning - including temperament, body language, health, nutrition, breed characteristics, and many others.
  • A sense of humor
  • And of course, both the trainer and instructor need to be skilled trainers.
While this list may seem long, successful trainers and instructors - those that stand out from the crowd in most any classified or Yellow Pages listing - have worked hard to acquire and hone their skills. Our programs are designed to enhance the talent, competence and expertise of professionals - from the aspiring novice to experienced trainers and instructors.
