Bug Repellant Recipe Print this Page E-mail This Page to a Friend
This is a natural flea, fly & tick repellent that horse people use. It works on dogs (and people), too!

Ingredients: 1 cup Avon Skin So Soft (Original Oil)
2 cups white vinegar
1-3 cups water
1 tablespoon Eucalyptus or Citronella oil (available at most health food stores).
Mix & Apply: Combine ingredients and put in trigger spray bottle.
Shake well before each use.
Spray a light mist over your dog - a little goes a long way.
Avoid nose and eyes.

The weaker mixture (3 cups water) works with flies and mosquitoes. The stronger mix (1 cup water) is for when your dog is in tick infested areas. However, it is not guaranteed to prevent ticks. Be sure you take other precautions, and check your dog thoroughly when you get home.

Caution: Rarely a dog may be sensitive to this recipe. We once had a student who used the entire recipe all at once, dumping it on her small dog, who had a reaction. Such overkill is not recommended or necessary, but if your dog does have a reaction, bathe him and do not use it again.

Skunk Odor Recipe

This is the mixture we use in our grooming salon. It works better than anything else we've tried.

Mix together: A teaspoon of liquid dishwashing liquid
¼ cup of baking soda
A quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide

Pour over your dog and rub well into his coat. Avoid getting it in his eyes. Rinse thoroughly and dry.

Dispose of any leftovers. Hydrogen peroxide loses its efficacy once it's mixed, and the mixture will explode.
